The Goddess Guide

I don't know about you, but I am quite obsessed with 'how to books.' Don't know how to walk in high heels? It's okay gals, just read the ehhhh, aptly named 'How to Walk in High Heels.' Are you (like me) a Goddess wannabe? Then the Goddess Guide and the Goddess Experience are the books for you.

After finishing college a few months ago, I was certainly not a Goddess. I was more of a slob-ess of the laziness variety. Goddesses take pride in their appearance. I let my hair grow all long and scraggly, I didn't care about painting my nails. However, you will be glad to know, ever since I got a job, I am slowly, but surely getting my mojo back. And today, the hairdresser hacked several inches off my hair and I love it!

Here are my tips on how to be a Goddess in the making:

1. Buy a pair of heels and yes, they are of the chunky heeled variety.

Heels from New Look.

2. Buy some statement necklaces, but just beacuse they look very glamourous, that doesn't mean they cost a lot. Cheap and cheerful!

L-R: Necklaces from Primark, Hand Painted & Primark.

3. Paint your nails in this season's colours. Rich, cool and dark polishes? Check!

Nailpolishes from Rimmel and Boots No.7.

What do you do to make you feel more like a Goddess?

Grey doesn't always have to be Gloomy

Remember those grey Proenza Schouler booties that Olivia Palermo wore and re-wore during Fashion Week(s)? Those lace up booties are to-die-for, but Olivia Palermo has moved on.....

Now she is coveting a beautiful wool cropped Giambattista Valli number, in grey, of course! I first spotted her wearing this eye-watering pricey jacket at the Elle Magazine 25th Anniversary Party. Then last night, she also wore this beauty to the Night of The Stars Gala last night.

If you want a piece of Olivia Palermo's style and you have £1,415 to spare, then head to Net-A-Porter and splash out.

Dear Olivia Palermo, can I please have your wardrobe? One item would suffice! Oh, and I'll also have your hair cut. Ta, love.

Lace up Brogue chunky heels, River Island, £54.99

Yes, chunky, not too high, but not too low heels, I do so love you. You give me some stability in the World of six inch stiletto heels (not that I wear six inchers).

Do you love these chunky, oh so chunky heels as much as I do? Let me know!

Ring-a-Ding-Ding. Kaching!

I was a bag lady this weekend. Oh, yes! Not the glamourous fashionable type, but the type of bag lady with mad fly-away hair, a red face and a general stressed out look. Bags on my shoulders, bags on my arms. But it's all good! Some of those bags were from H&M. Some were stuffed with my dirty washing. Not chic!

I couldn't believe it when I saw this model at China Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2011. Now, she is the ultimate bag lady. Glamourous, in control, bags swinging left, right and centre. Not a hair out of place. I now know where to put my bags when I go shopping. No free arms? It's okay, just put them on your hair. If you have knotty hair like mine, the knots will just keep them in. Sorted! I will be the ultimate glamourous bag lady.

Just a bit of fun on this windy Monday night! I was out gallivanting this weekend. (Gallivanting that included drinking cocktails, wine & vodka, not going to bed until 6am, then getting up at 10am, having fun times with friends, shopping. As my brother said to me: 'You are back to your socialite ways'. I wouldn't go that far, but it's nice having a bit of freedom and money again!). So, what I am trying to say in a very long winded way, sorry for the lack of posts.

Were you a bag lady this weekend? As in, did you go shopping? Hope ye all had a fantastic weekend?!

New York Girls

Whenever I am feeling bored or uninspired, I hit my well battered Sex and The City box set. Without sounding like a total tool, Carrie's outfits and accessories are a delight to the eyes. One Dior bag here, Manolo Blahnik shoes there, a Cosmopolitan glass making very frequent appearances. God Bless you, Patricia Field! One episode cures that boredom or lack of inspiration in 25 minutes. For the rest of the day, I then believe that I can have the wardrobe, job and men that Carrie has.

There is nothing wrong with a bit of far-fetched day dreaming after a very lacklustre day in work, is there? What do you do when you are feeling bored or uninspired?

Just Max it!

The town that I live in is not very shopping friendly. This weekend, I am planning a trip to a more shopping friendly city, not very credit card friendly, though! But who cares? That's what credit cards are for...to max them out, whilst buying a maxi skirt, of course!

I must admit by the end of the summer season, I was slightly sick of maxi skirts, but now, my love of them has returned! So, for this weekend, I will be dedicating some my time to find the perfect maxi.

Will you be doing any specific clothes shopping this week? Go on, max out that credit/ laser card. I dare you!!

Long, floaty romantic skirts. Yes, Please!

The Itchy & Scratchy Show!

Light blue/ green jumper? Check! Itchy and scratchy as hell? Check! Do I love it? Check! I am currently in the process of renovating the interior of my wardrobe. Bye bye Summer clothes, hello Autumn/ Winter pieces! Worn with the style of trousers that I am loving at the moment. These leopard prints are so comfortable and I just love the material. They are even more comfortable than my pj's. In fact, I think they would be perfectly suitable to sleep in.

Jumper: River Island
Trousers: A-Wear
Hand Painted Necklace: Vintage

I am trying to put more of the My (as in me, myself and I) in My Republic of Fashion. Is this a good idea, do you think?

Only in France

I love Paris in the spring time
I love Paris in the fall
I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles
I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles

Yes, I do so love Paris. I remember once I promised myself that I would visit Paris once (or twice) every single year. This year is nearly up and I haven't made a trip yet. Tick tock, why is the clock going so fast?! Paris is oh so fashionable, chic and the inhabitants dress beautifully. I could people watch there for weeks on end! However, I do realise that Paris also has it's rough areas, like every other City, town or village in the World. But once you catch sight of the beautifully designed bridges, you know this isn't any ordinary City.

This Marie-Claire Italia October editorial portrays Paris, especially Le Tour Eiffel fantastically. Is there a City that you love and visit over and over, and never get tired of it?

So, I either need to get on a plane fast or buy a pair of red leather gloves, which I am lusting after in this editorial.

Red Gloves, £20, Accessorize.com
Ryanair Plane, no frills, but more thrills

Blue & White Beauties

Rodarte, Prada and Roberto Cavalli. Blue and White. Beautiful, beautiful patterns.

These blue and white pieces remind of dinner plates that my grandparents had. The plates were blue and white and they told an amazing story. That Rodarte skirt (on Keira Knightley) tells a story. That Monkey Prada top tells a story. That Roberto Cavalli to-die-for dress tells a story. I truly love these pieces. And, you?

PS. Sorry for the break in between posts, time is just running away from me this week!

Mugshot Monday

What is this girl wearing and what is she doing? Look at that really skimpy mini with (sorry Father, for she has sinned) white writing all of over it. And the F word also features on it. Double sin!! Look at her hair. There has to be a bird living in that!! Look at how she is posing. What is she looking at?! Looking out yonder, perhaps? What yonder, though?!

Yes, people, it is Mugshot Monday. And My Republic of Fashion is not holding back. Fashionable, this is not!

PS This is actually me! (writing in third person is quite weird). This was one of my unsuccessful attempts at ehhhh, cough cough modelling. So, I can absolutely slag myself off in this picture. Just a bit of fun for this Monday night & I do actually like the hair!:)

Hope ye all had a fantastic weekend?

Don't skimp on the sleeves

The one thing that I hate is a too tight sleeve. I like my sleeves with loads of volume, I like sleeves that allow my arms to breath. I only had a chance to catch up with the last of PFW shows this evening and I was very happy to see beautiful voluminous sleeves in the Elie Saab, Louis Vuitton and Paul & Joe collections. I'll have some sleeves, please. Not too tight!

Are big sleeves your thing or do you prefer them tight, oh so tight?

P.S. I got my first ever pay packet today! Can you guess what I will be doing tomorrow...? It starts with S and ends with g. Let the good times begin!

P.P.S. Thank God it's Friday!!

Sugar and Spice

Never has writing a book been so fashionable. Along with the the perfume and reality show phenomenon, writing a book seems to be the new thing to do in the World of Reality show stars. But, whatever! I believe that every single person has one book in them. I haven't started mine yet, but it will probably go along the lines of 'Once upon a time' and 'They all live happily ever after' and 'The End'. So, I have the beginning and end sorted out, now I just need the middle. Hmmmmm....

Anyway, enough of my rambling! Book signings usually come with the territory when a celebrity writes a book. Lauren Conrad and Nicole Richie looked very chic whilst scribbling their name on the inside cover. Of course, Lauren Conrad is a veteran book signer by this stage (is that her second or third book?). She looks lacy lovely in her white, ehhh lace dress.

However, Nicole Richie is wearing the most beautiful dark olive-ish green sweater dress. Her outfit looks way more cozy than Lauren's. Loving her hair, also. Don't know what the books are about, to be honest I don't really care. I read Lauren Conrad's first book and it was just like watching an early episode of the Hills.

Which look is catching your fancy, the white lace, nude leg look or the cozy dress and black tight look?

Oh, and when will you be writing that book?

Burton.

'A Moment on the Lips. A Lifetime on the Hips.'

The Spring Summer 2011 collection of Alexander McQueen under designer Sarah Burton, hello! No doubt there were nerves, but fear not, this collection is nerve-breaking. Adventurous, daring, everything Lee McQueen was.

We usually try to avoid adding that extra extra to our hips, but Burton designed these dresses so beautifully, how could you refuse?

'I'm Mrs. Extra! Extra! this just in.' Look at that first dress, look at the butterfly detailing, look at the butterfly adorned shoes. Wow!

So a lifetime on the hips, what do you think? If you hadn't guessed already, I say yes!

I want to be a Chloé Girl.

Finally! I am after seeing the colour of Autumn, well my colour of Autumn. Someone described this colour as camel, but unless I am going mad or colour blind, I feel that this Chloé jumpsuit is as far from the colour camel, that the colour camel can go. This jumpsuit that Anja Rubik is wearing is more of an auburn/ deep orange colour, I feel. And to me, this colour signifies Autumn. This colour signifies the crispy & crunchy leaves on the ground, that only Autumn brings.

What colour/s signify Autumn for you?

Anja Rubik may be the ultimate Chloé girl, but apparently this Chloé girl doesn't walk...she sits, in the front row. And what a show she viewed. The Chloé Spring/ Summer 2011 collection was simple, but the materials that Hannah MacGibbon used were oh-so luxurious. You couldn't really expect anything less though from Chloé, could you?

I just love the details of this collection! So, sit back and take it all in, like Anja Rubik did!
